Traveling During CO-VID19

In case you didn’t know, I turned 16 last Wednesday and asked for NO PRESENTS from my family. I insisted that I didn’t want more “stuff” which is hard for me to say because I love gifts. This was also hard for my mom because she loves shopping. Since Reed‘s birthday is the day after mine, we usually go to Denver for Labor Day weekend or do something fun. This year mom surprised us and we went to California. The whole reason I am writing this is to follow my theme of life during coronavirus. It is meant to be informative and factual. I will be talking about the experience of traveling (on a plane) while both Colorado and California have many restrictions. Enjoy! :)
We started our journey by parking our car and riding a bus to the airport. I was pleased to see that everyone was wearing a mask on the bus but it was very crowded.
When we got to the airport, there were many signs with helpful rules and regulations. The sign below made me feel a lot better about traveling by plane. Most employees were divided by a sheet of plexiglass.

In security, we did not have to take off our shoes (unlike LAX) and there were hand sanitizer stations all around. The DIA tram was a little bit concerning, just because it is tight quarters, but people were respectful and wore masks.

In the terminal, almost all of the restaurants and stores were open. However, at LAX, there was only one coffee shop open and the line was crazy long. All of the other places were closed with bars.

The plane was a very comfortable and pleasing experience. We took Southwest. Walking on the plane, the smell of disinfectant was clear because the flight attendants had just wiped the seats down. On both of our flights, there were not many people and the middle seats were left empty. Water and snacks were handed out, but other than that, everyone kept their masks on and I didn’t hear anyone sneeze or cough. 😳

The airport was not very busy each time we went and I am so happy that our planes had empty seats. Overall, I am so glad that we traveled and got away for the weekend. I would definitely do it again since airlines and workers are doing their very best at keeping us safe. Initially, I was nervous and didn't want to travel. I did not understand going somewhere for fun when it is risking so much. I felt that it was not the time for a vacation... but I was wrong. I think that planes are cleaner than they have ever been and people are so much more careful. Hopefully this information is helpful and let me know if you have any questions.
See you next time!
Ava

Thank you for sharing your experience. Makes me feel better about Zach flying home for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I hope you had a great time, your photos made it look like you did. Love you lots.
Thanks for sharing your positive insights on traveling during Covid. It is so helpful to understand what traveling by plane (which can be challenging any time) was like through your current experience, and through your eyes. I just love reading your positive, informative and fun-to-read blog entries!
Hi Ava. What a wonderful post! You gave me a good feel for traveling by plane. I’m not ready for that yet. I wonder if they’d let me bring my dive gear on a plane?
But mostly, Happy Sweet 16. It’s a big one...now you can drive....freedom!!
My granddaughter, Ryane, turns 16 next month, and you two are destined to meet each other. You’re alike in so many of the best ways.
Hey, I posted something you might enjoy. I was asked about differences between today and when I was a kid. I really enjoyed writing it. I’d love to see what youll write on that topic 50 years from now!
love you,
Bob
Wow! What an experience and a truly memorable gift. I loved your photo essay that tells the story of not just your trip, but of COVID travel as well. Thanks for sharing!
