Imagine leaving your only home to find a new one that has different languages, different cultures, and different people imagine being a Refugee. Refugee will take you back to 3 historical time periods with 3 different kids escaping their countries and war to have a life with peace. Little do these characters know that there will be many challenges that lead to many connections along the way.

If you are interested in historical fiction, World War 2, page-turners, Syria, Cuba, or just love a great book I know you will like Refugee.

If you have already read Refugee and have fallen in love with Alan Gratz’s writing he has other great books like Grenade, Prisoner B-3087, and Projekt 1065. Refugee changed my comprehension of Refugees but most of all I think it showed me how hard it would be if your home was swallowed in a big war and all you could do was try to run away from dangers facing so many more along the way. I also realized how devastating concentration camps were. Someone could go in as a great person and come out as someone who just wants to die. Josef: Josef is a Jewish boy who lived in the 1930s when the Nazis ruled Germany.

Isabel: Isabel is a Cuban girl who lives in a communist society ruled by a dictator who won’t let them leave.

Mahamoud: Mahamoud is a Syrian boy whose home is destroyed by bombs and has his life at risk every second.

These characters all flee their only homes and war to try and find a new life with different cultures, languages, and religions. Read this amazing story by Alan Gratz and you will feel like you are standing right next to these three amazing characters. I’ve received senses of thrill as I’ve gone through their adventures and I know you will too.

When I finished Refugee I was almost in tears. 3 stories of kids trying to escape the only life they know of to find a new one in a new country with new languages, new religions, and new cultures this book has gotten to my emotions. This book was definitely one of my favorites. Imagine escaping your only home and taking huge risks with huge consequences to get to a new place you have never even been to. Imagine being a Refugee.
