Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)

Day 2 of Quarantine: Exponential growth

Total cases (US): 6411

Total deaths(US): 109

Since it is my spring break (what a vacation!) I do not start online learning until next Monday. Reed however started today. In today’s post, I am going to talk about the exponential growth of Coronavirus.

The first time I heard about the Coronavirus I was in human geography class watching CNN. This was in November and it was an irrelevant problem that I had (or thought I had) nothing to worry about. About a month ago our teachers began talking about the spread of the Coronavirus and how it would probably come to the Vail Valley because we are such a tourist destination. It was hard not to laugh about a virus that shared a name with beer while sitting in class.

When I first heard about the case in Summit, Colorado it was a Thursday night and I was sitting at my desk doing homework. I had a lot of packing to do because I was going to Colorado Crossroads which is a volleyball tournament with SO MANY PEOPLE! Last year there were 56880 attendees. Some expected the tournament to be canceled due to the parents, coaches, and players coming from all across the country but it was not and I was impressed by the number of hand sanitizer stations.

I got through the weekend (although according to the CDC I could be a carrier of the virus for 2 weeks) and went back to school on Tuesday. Everything was normal except for the anticipation of spring break... and Coronavirus. The Head of School instructed us to take all of our books and binders home in case the virus arrived before spring break was over. On Thursday all school sports were canceled and people began to rethink their spring break plans. A few of my friends were planning on leaving the country and many were traveling out of state but as the virus spread, trips had to be canceled.

On Friday afternoon we received notice that the schools would be closed for a while. I was at work when many notifications of closure came in and everyone at the salon was chatting and gossiping about coronavirus. I went to work on Saturday but Sunday was my first day of quarantine.

Hopefully, the virus will die down (but I am thinking it will not).

Stay sanitary,

Ava
