Day 39 of Quarantine: Stay Writing
Total cases (US): 886442

My blog is a mixture of many types of writing and techniques. Some days, I feel stressed and have to get it out, other days I want to inspire people, and sometimes I feel like writing a poem or telling a story. Writing is a great tool and I love sharing with others to establish a connection. Today I’m going to talk about the different ways you can journal and their benefits.
Bullet Journaling:
I have seen bullet journaling all over Pinterest along with other website and it seems like something I can get into. Last night I ordered a bullet journal along with some stationery pens and now I am excited to start this journey. If you haven’t heard of bullet journaling, it is basically where you have a notebook with dots instead of lines and you use it to make schedules, goals, really anything to keep you organized. Most bullet journals are filled out very aesthetically. I had almost forgotten about this technique until my aunt reminded me yesterday and I am so glad.
Morning Pages:
Morning pages is a technique that my grandma is an advocate of along with my mom. I also think it’s a great thing to dump your brain out first thing in the morning and is healthy. Usually, it is three pages of stream of courteousness writing. It is for your eyes only and is a place to write down anything and everything that crosses your mind.
Intentional Journaling:
For my mom's 49th birthday, she bought herself an intention journal to be mindful. It was going to be a place where she could be honest with herself every morning. Ironically, March 4, which is her birthday, was the last normal day. A man in Summit County had the virus on March 5. So that changed the plan a little bit. Back to the point, journaling with an intention is a great technique that can help you stay on track and fulfill your goals.
Songwriting:
I have been interested in songwriting for a while now and I have come to the realization that all I have to do is take one of my poems and add a chord progression to it. Songs are really just brain dumps in where the artist is trying to relate… well, most genres of music. ;)
Anyway, I'd love to hear about some of your favorite ways to write and journal!
Stay writing, Ava
I'm more a morning pages journal writer. Structure always comes last for me when writing and so the thought of starting with bullet journals causes me anxiety. Although I have friends who swear by them and I admit to being a bit envious of how beautiful their journals look! Mine are a mess. The other thing I've started doing that is not a journal but related is carrying a 3 x 5 index card and pen when I hike. I often come up with stray observations or sentences or thoughts while walking and if I wait until I get home, I will forget. I have piles of folded index cards which I now keep in a box. I believe Ann…
These are great ideas. And I am so glad you are going to do the Bullet Journaling. I can't wait to see what you create.
Hi Ava, I always like to talk with artists of any kind, to find out what drives them. Singers- writers- musicians-artists-actors. Most of those professions pay poorly, but what I've found kind of universally is that artists are driven by something inside of the, not by any material thing. It's like they''ll explode if they don't let their creativity out. Thanks for sharing!
I have been reading “The Bullet Journal Method” and bought a fancy Leuchtturm 1917 journal, Ava, ironically making the most progress in the book when I was last visiting Colorado. It seems a daunting hill to climb to fully understand and fully deploy this method, but with your inspiration I will renew my effort. I would love to hear your reporting on your own progress, too.
