Day 31 of Quarantine: Stay Reading!!!

Total cases (US): 644,089

Total deaths(US): 28,529

Today I opened my window to a snowy scene. Although this could be looked upon negatively, it is the perfect day to curl up with a book.

I recently read Girl in the Blue Coat by Monica Hesse. This is an excellent mystery that takes place during World War II. The story is told with an interesting perspective and I enjoyed the intensity. The mystery tied with romance and historical fiction is a perfect balance. I highly recommend this book, especially if you are looking for an escape.

Mom: I recommend American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins. The story begins with a Mexican woman, Lydia, and her son, Luca, escaping a targeted gang murder of 16 of her family members including her husband and mother. It is extremely intense and Lydia and Luca go through such discouraging events trying to escape Mexico but I found myself being encouraged by their bravery and kindness. This book is well written and I connected and admired the main characters throughout each page.

Reed: I just read The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart. This book was full of excitement and one thing that I enjoyed about it was how many clues there were in every chapter. This fiction book was not only an exciting mystery but it reminded me of many life lessons along the way such as not doubting yourself. When Reynie is having second thoughts about his plan, he trusts himself and encourages others to keep going. I recommend The Mysterious Benedict Society to anyone who likes an exciting book with many twists.

Goodreads is an excellent and free app I encourage you to download. It is a great way to connect and see what your friends are reading while tracking what you have read. I have been using Goodreads for many years and I have logged hundreds of my books. It is uplifting to look back on all that I have read! On the iPhone app, you are able to scan books with your camera and mark them as "want to read." This is especially helpful when at a bookstore. You can look at what your Goodreads friends are reading and also add them if you are interested.  Goodreads will also make suggestions based on your choices and keep you up to date on books that win awards and new books being released. There are countless features to the program and it is the perfect way to organize and track your reading life. Check it out and I would love to be Goodreads friends with you so I can see what you are reading!
