Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)

Day 35 of Quarantine: Stay In Rhythm

Total cases (US): 764636

Total deaths(US): 40575

Yesterday I took a break from writing because I have been on my computer so much lately and it is really getting to me.

To stay connected, being on our devices is required. Unfortunately, there are negative effects to looking at a screen for a long amount of time.

During the week, I am on my computer from 9:00 to 1:00 without a break. After this, I try my best to limit my screen time BUT some of the things I like doing (making videos, browsing the web, texting my friends) is on a screen. I have been getting headaches because of my screen use and I am very interested in a possible solution.

Many things have been coming out on the internet about blue light and I have seen ads for glasses that protect your eyes from it. After doing a bit of research, I learned that blue light has many effects including trouble sleeping and headaches.

It seems that our computers and phones are so necessary right now but how do we protect ourselves while using it?

I figured out that Apple has a setting where you can adjust the blue light and set a range for it to be turned on and off. I have had my blue light turned off for 3 days now and I am already seeing amazing results. The moment that I turn the blue light off, my eyes seem to relax. It is a weird feeling and hard to explain but is comfortable.

You may be wondering, does the screen look different? When you turn the blue light off, the screen appears to have an orange filter on it but it doesn't bother me at all and is very easy to get used to.

To adjust the blue light on your iPhone:

Settings > Display & Brightness > Night Shift

From here you can schedule the blue light to go away for a duration of time, manually enable until tomorrow, and change the color temperature.

As I have been researching, I have found the topic of blue light very interesting and wanted to share it with you. :)

Stay in rhythm,

Ava

I'll give it a try! Somedays I want to throw my computer and phone off the back deck, but I know they're important tools to stay connected to family, friends, and students. Too much sometimes, though!
