Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Day 11 of Quarantine: First Week of School Total cases (US): 85435 Total deaths(US): 1295
Today I'm going to talk briefly about doing school online because I haven't discussed it much since I started on Tuesday. Each morning, school starts at 9 and each class it's on Zoom for 30 minutes. Then we have a 5-minute break until we have to join the chat room for the next class. Honestly, it's very organized. I don't think it would work if it wasn't this precise and strict. Our online classes end at 1 but then we use the rest of the day to complete our assignments. I feel like it's more work than normal school and I have been spending the whole afternoon and evening working. It's fun to see everyone online but not as fun as talking to them in person. Once you click end on the video chat, you are completely alone again. It's definitely better than receiving emails about your assignments because you can see the teacher and students but I still feel isolated. It is funny to see the contrast because, in my freshmen classes, everyone sits there and takes notes and it is very formal but in my classes with upperclassmen, students are making virtual backgrounds, using the private chat feature to send each other messages, and using the draw tool to make art. The freshmen have not quite figured it out yet. In most classes, we just have to write and send it to the teacher. That is really the only way that they can know we understand things. Even in classes like biology or Spanish, we are required to write each day. This gets very boring and exhausting especially since we do it seven times, for each class. Most things taking place at the end of the year are canceled. However, AP exams will still take place. Of all things to stay, it’s those AP exams.🤔😤 Taking tests online is weird because when you don't feel the need to study because you're taking it at home but everyone has enough integrity to be trusted by the teachers. If I feel bad for anyone, it’s the seniors. It would be horrible to have your senior spring break, prom, and graduation taken away and then after the outbreak, everyone just moves on. Although the writing today was short, I hope you enjoyed my perspective and take on online schooling.
Stay studious,
Ava
